The word fossil
The fossil comes from the Latin word fossilium and in turn this comes from the verb meaning foder dig. Hence also the word Trench.
In the sixteenth century the word referred only to fossil minerals Extract Address of the land. But it was not until the nineteenth century when its use became popular in the sense of traces of organisms now extinct.
So a fossil means literally "dug object." Did you know?
